This project involved redesigning an existing informational sign located at Florida State College of Jacksonville’s South Campus. The original sign contained a large amount of information but lacked clear visual hierarchy, making it difficult for viewers to quickly navigate and understand the content. The goal of this redesign was to improve readability, organization, and overall visual appeal while maintaining the integrity of the information being presented.
The new design introduces a cleaner layout with clearly defined sections, allowing users to easily distinguish between the garden map, plant index, and contributor information. Typography was carefully selected to create contrast between headings and body text, improving legibility at a distance. A simplified color palette inspired by natural greens and blues reinforces the botanical theme while maintaining consistency across all elements.
Special attention was given to spatial organization and alignment to ensure that information flows logically across the sign. The map area was emphasized as the primary focal point, while supporting content such as plant names and donor recognition was structured to be easily scannable. The result is a more user-friendly and visually cohesive design that enhances both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
